Pizza and a Pickle

OK, so here's the deal. Last night we were supposed to celebrate the inaugural use of our new pizza oven. Yup, you read right - a PIZZA OVEN!  I've been wanting one for a very long time, but they all cost a fortune and the homemade ones are a little large for our rather compact back yard.

I found a great solution though. You see, when I was bragging to you all about our Weber Rotisserie, I saw an attachment for a pizza oven that received pretty darn good reviews and I figured there was a good chance Big Guy'd be pretty excited over it too. It arrived on Monday night so we planned pizza for Tuesday's dinner. 

The thing is, we didn't account for the fact we're in the middle of monsoon season. It was wild - here's a video that's was on youtube from an earlier storm this year and it'll give a good idea what it's like to drive in one ...and what the streets look like. (You may want to turn off the sound - just sayin')

 

Anyway, it was darn near dark last night by the time Big Guy made it home and no, he doesn't drive like the "dudes" in the video, so using the new pizza oven was no longer an option. We'll just have to try again when monsoon season's over, uh maybe, maybe not.  

Here's a photo of the pizza we did have (bacon, onion jam, fontina and mozzarella cheese, heirloom tomatoes). It wasn't pretty but by that time it didn't matter much if you know what I mean. There's gotta' be better days ahead, right?

What do you mean it wasn't pretty - that is a gorgeous pizza! But - I think pizza by its very nature is beautiful! A perfect meal in a slice! You had me at bacon and onion jam! Shame about that monsoon! We have been getting tons of summer rain, too!

Lea - summer can be over any time as far as I'm concerned. Between the storms and the poison toads, we've about had it. LOL
