Friday's around here are ultra casual including but not limited to our culinary endeavors. What can be better than celebrating the end of another work week than with an ooey gooey cheesy messy to eat patty melt sandwich.
Last night's version was truly one of those "seat of your pants" creations including lean beef mixed with a little steak sauce, dried onions and lots of pepper then grilled on our fancy new shiny red grill. A Maui sweet onion mixed with a yellow onion sauteed in butter to a rich golden brown and jazzed up with some marsala wine topped the beef patty, along with slices of muenster cheese all on some glorious rye bread loaded with caraway seeds and browned till crispy in butter on the flat top grill.
Our sandwiches kept company on the plate along side some "schmucked" potatoes - little red taters roasted in a very hot oven till really soft on the inside and crisp outside, then flattened and returned to the oven to crisp up, topped with coarse salt and fresh rosemary. They were yummy.
I've no recipe to give to you since I measured not one thing so I'll have to leave the re-creation of last night's dinner up to you and your imagination. Happy October 1 everyone!

Lorraine - not sure why we don't make 'em more often. Any sandwich that's grilled in butter gets my vote every time.
Thanks Pam, but I really just wanted to order in pizza. LOL

That looks just fabulous and I love love love how you added the Marsala to the onions!!!!!!

Thanks Lea. The Marsala makes such a difference - sherry would likely work as well.
