Manhattan Clam Chowder is not something I've ever made before - New England yes and of course my famous, fabulous and our favorite Yachats Blush Clam Chowder, but never had we tried the tomato soup version until last night.
Adapted from the New Basics Cookbook of Silver Palate fame, this chowder is full of bacon, onions, celery, green pepper, carrots, potatoes and of course clams along with my additions of garlic and a lot more spices than their version called for - I know that's a given isn't it! To be honest it is good and much like a cioppino but without the assortment of seafood that makes cioppino such a treat. I do have to admit we're a little partial to the creamier versions of clam chowder even though they're a ton higher in the calorie department. Some things are just worth it, ya' know?
Speaking of "worth it", being as we'd only had soup for dinner I figured a little dessert wouldn't hurt us in the least and whipped up some Butterscotch Pudding. Download Scotchy Butterscotch Pudding
My Canadian roots are showing - this recipe's adapted from a very old Purity Cookbook and it's just your basic stove top pudding with a little added twist....a tablespoon of Dewar's Scotch put this pud right over the top. Definitely an "adult" dessert, it is rich, creamy, and buttery even without a touch of butter in it. I gotta say there's no doubt in my mind that booze definitely makes things better. And that my friends, is all I'm gonna' say about that!
Well, I am watching those calories right now and this clam chowder sounds satisfying to me!

Thanks Sarah. Thankfully we're down to the last 3 packages of clams in our freezer and not a moment too soon, but I think the next package will likely involve the creamy version of the chowda'.

I passed right on by that chowder and went straight for my alcoholic sweet tooth with that pudding. My goodness that looks delicious!
