Sloppy Joes have been around forever it seems and are certainly a quick solution to filling a hungry man's stomach. We don't have them very often for some bizarre reason but last week when I whipped up some Angel Biscuits the big guy commented as to how great they'd be smothered in sloppy joe mix and that's all it took for me to add them to the menu.
Now don't get me wrong, we used to have these things fairly often when I was a kid but always with the use of a package of dry seasoning mix. Course like most people I've also tried the Manwich version, but I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't just make them from scratch because they're pretty darn easy to whip up. Download Sloppy Joes
After some deliberation as to exactly what vegetables I should hide in them, I settled on finely chopped onion, sweet red bell peppers, and tomatoes, along with some ketchup and barbecue sauce, but all it took were some chopped pickled jalapeno's to take the loose meat right over the top. Course, the giant sized biscuits more than did their part making this plate of ooey, gooey goodness into a sandwich - knife and fork definitely required.
Those darn biscuits are just outright sinfully delicious - these big ones took 15 minutes to cook by the way and I used a 4 inch cutter. Ya' baby - lady like they're not!
hehehehehehe - ooeeyyyy gggooooeeeeyyyy mmmeeesssyyyyy gggooodddnnneeesss!!!

You're right Lea. There are people that think I am incapable of making let alone eating something like this...of course they didn't see me shoveling it in last night! LOLOL

yeah, I think Sloppy Joe's are always knife and fork food. I used to love to eat Sloppy Joe's at my Grandma's. I can't seem to find a recipe that tastes quite like hers but I keep trying. Yours look great!

Thanks Lisa. It's funny how we equate certain foods with people we love.

Damn those look good. I love sloppy joes and usually add extra hot salsa to mine and top with cheese :) And if it's on hand, chopped avocado.

We always made them with a powdered spice mix when I was a teenager. Never knew any different! We have come a long way, Baby!

Cathy - the big guy's with you! I failed to mention that he covered his with half a jar of pickled jalapenos and additional hot sauce, but I sure like your cheese and avocado idea.
Sarah - ain't that the truth. We have come a long way.

Sloppy Joes.... I love them! And now that the kids are out of the house, I'm able to add the jalapenos too. Don't you just love grown-up kid food?

Yup, love it - in fact the big guy's always askin' for hot dogs and I'll have to comply soon. Next week's his birthday week.
