I don't know about you, but I love those lazy Saturday afternoons and yesterday's qualified as one of the best. We spent it watching the Breeder's Cup on television - horse racing is such an incredibly exciting business but maybe I'm a little partial. After all, it's directly responsible for the big guy and I meeting up and how he makes our living now teaching.
After screaming the house down watching the sport of kings, it seemed only fitting that we have a dinner worthy of nobility so that's what we did. Last Thursday, Cathy at Noble Pig posted a recipe for Vanilla Cider Pork with Pears that looked so amazing, I was compelled to put it on our weekly menu. Pork medallions are cooked with fresh pears in a sauce that's absolutely teeming with the flavors of fall. Quick to make and definitely company worthy, it is incredibly delicious. Unfortunately my cider wasn't hard, so I added a couple of tablespoons of Applejack just before serving and I was a goofus doofus and used a non stick pan rather than good old cast iron, so the color's not quite as good as it could have been. We had it on a bed of roasted squash and parsnips that were done in cast iron. Go figure. Anyway, that's all I'm gonna say on that because darn it, if it were me I would have kept this particular recipe as MY secret so I'd go down in infamy. Thankfully Cathy's much less selfish than yours truly. I very much enjoyed my 3 pieces of "poik" and the big guy gloated over his 8. What can I say except that he's a really light eater.
I know, I know. I'm a little later posting this morning than usual on a Sunday morning. I'm definitely slow on the draw. You see at 3:00 AM we learned the true meaning of the word "caterwauling". The Georgie girl likes to sleep in one of our two kumquat pots. So what you ask? Well at 3:00 bells the H2O comes on to water the kumquats and there was a heck of a racket when said water hit one sleeping feline. It sounded like a bomb went off when she hit the wooden bench deck running flat out! The noise lasted for a good 30 seconds, after which she was meowing pitifully at the door. Now that's a heck of an alarm clock, wouldn't you say?
Cathy does have some good recipes, doesn't she? This one looks particularly flavorful.
I got a kick out of reading about poor Georgie...LOL! Would have loved to see how that all went down, but wouldn't have appreciated the early morning wake-up call for sure.

Never a dull moment around this place. If Georgie's not teaching Max how to hunt, she's running laps on the roof or teasing dumb Duncan the chocolate lab next door or trying to catch birds taking a drink outa' the fountain. You'd think she'd be used to water just from that. LOL

Glad you enjoyed it, I'm ready to make it again.
