It's a good day in the neighborhood. Aren't Saturday mornings the bomb? The sun's just starting to come up here in desertville and I've the window open for a little air. It's a lovely 77 degrees, but promising to heat up again. It'll start cooling off here in another month and a bit, so it's a rare treat when the outside is cooler than the inside of the house. Ya' gotta take advantage of it.
As you can see, we did not go out for dinner last night. Grumpy had left the building by the time the big guy got home and dinner was in the oven. To test the old wives' tale that eating something hot and spicy will make you feel cooler, last night we had Hot 'n Spicy Drumsticks from one of my favorite Canadian cookbooks. Download Hot N Spicy Drumsticks Now there was a time I thought these were extremely spicy, but my tastebuds have acclimated so much these hardly get a second notice. Honestly, don't be concerned with the amount of hot sauce in the recipe because so little of the glaze ends up on the drumsticks, you'll only notice a pleasant little tingle. If you want more heat, add some red pepper flakes. That'll do it.
The hot sweet glaze on the drumsticks is a perfect foil for an arugula salad, with its slightly bitter taste combined with a little frisee, a creamy avocado, red onion, a little bacon and good old Kraft French dressing. Accompanied by some "special" lemonade (we'll go there later), dinner was most enjoyable.
Today promises to be a busy one with our usual Saturday morning plans including breakfast at our local golf club, followed by grocery shopping. Our plan is to hit the movie theatre to see Julie & Julia early this afternoon. The big guy's coming with me and I can't wait! Gotta run & get my apron pressed. After all, one must be dressed appropriately for the occasion - ha. TTFN.
I love foods that are hot and spicy. I do think they make you feel cooler in the heat. Or maybe it's just a matter of distraction. Either way I'd love to have a bite.

Would love to have shared some with you Lisa. I had a piece for lunch yesterday and it tasted even better cold - certainly had more of a kick.
