We're heading off to Hug Point today,100 miles north up the coast on Highway 101. It is a beautiful drive and an even more beautiful destination. The big guy and I were married there almost 9 years ago, so it holds special meaning to us. I promise to have lots of pictures to show you tomorrow.
Yesterday was filled with real life chores - like laundry, but we made quick work of it at the Waldport laundramat. Of course that was after breakfast at the Flounder Inn - hey our goal to never miss a meal is still intact. After we dropped the laundry at home, we took a long drive up the Yachats River and came out on the Alsea River. It was a beautiful drive as you can see. The scenery around here is amazing and hard to describe adequately, although I know I've tried, I don't think I've been able to do it justice. It's like all of the perfect things that were created ended up in one place. Do you remember singing "He's got the whole world in his hands" in Sunday school? That's what I think of whenever we're here. The flowers are brighter, the trees are bigger, the grass is greener, the birds more plentiful and they sing louder, although they're suspiciously quiet this morning...well you get the picture, don't you?
We went by this little suspension bridge across one of the rivers feeding the Yachats River. There was a house built on the other side this was the "path" to the door. Imagine carting your groceries across this to get home? Course I would think of that, wouldn't I.
Just down the road was this perfect little waterfall. We saw lots of deer, rabbits, and of course berries of every description. There were wildflowers everywhere too. We also fell in love with the Tidewater area, which is a community built along the Alsea River, and we'll be heading back up there to seriously check it out before we leave to go back to Tucson. Isn't planning the next adventure FUN? Hey the big guy and I are both Type A personalities - we believe in planning in advance. WAY in advance!
I know I'm getting really long winded and I've got to wrap this up so we can head out. GMan's already in the shower and he's likely to get a might impatient with me if I don't speed it up a bit.
Lunch yesterday was the "perfect" burger at the Drift Inn in Yachats. I think I mentioned earlier there are certain places to go for particular menu items in Yachats and for sure, the Drift's burger is the best. Filled with jack cheese, green chile, onions (the big guy had avacado on his as well as bacon and pineapple), and good quality beef, this burger is one of the best restaurant burger's we've ever enjoyed. Notice I said restaurant burgers - personally I'm very partial to the big guy's efforts in the burger department. Oh, I didn't mention the fries did I. They are super crisp, super fresh and covered in fresh cracked pepper. Amazing, just amazing!
Last night's dinner was a later one than usual and although neither of us thought we were really that hungry after having a huge lunch, we managed. So much for cold chicken for lunch today! The big guy grilled the chicken drumsticks on the barbecue and made his special barbecue sauce to go on them. (Sorry, he doesn't share the recipe - not even with me).We also had some roasted beets that we just had to get out of the fridge and holy cow, they were sure good.
I needed to clear out the freezer and so made a casserole out of the hash browns hanging around in there - you know the one with 1 cup of sour cream, 1 can of mushroom soup, 2/3 cup milk, 1 chopped onion, and 1-1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese with 2 pounds of frozen hashbrowns. Cooked for an hour at 350, we'll be eating the leftovers for quite a while. It could have used some green chile too, but I'd used what I had already in an artichoke dip, so the potatoes were kind of naked, at least to us spice lovers. Oh well, we ate them anyway and they were still delish. It's hard to go wrong with all that FAT, isn't it?
The cholesteral police are threatening to throw us in the "hooscow", so I suppose we'd better start behaving at some point. Oh, what the heck. Maybe tomorrow. Gotta' roll! See ya'.
