Last night's dinner was in one word "terrible". We had fettucini with white clam sauce and although it was a good recipe from Epicurious.com, http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/Linguine-with-White-Clam-Sauce-529 I used two kinds of clams and my timing was off so they were tough, chewy and just darn right bad. I didn't have any fresh herbs which is pretty dumb when the Yachats farmer's market was in full swing all yesterday afternoon. I was too darn lazy to walk down the road and buy some. I tried to make up for it with some lemon zest and red pepper flakes - oh that was smart. What you don't see in the picture is that under the top layer of pasta, there's a big pile of red pepper flakes. I took the lid of the bottle thinking there was a shaker on it and ended up dumping half of it on the bowl.
All of that on top of the fact that I didn't feel much like cooking resulted in a bowl of pasta that was anything but stellar. What a waste of my guy's hard work as a clam gatherer. But you know what? He ate it anyway and where is he right at this moment? Why out gathering more gaper clams of course.
Yesterday we did a little puttering around the garden here at the cabin and later today we'll head out to take some pictures of an amazing local garden to show you what having a green thumb can do. Personally, neither of my thumbs have a smidge on green on them. I can't even keep potted basil alive.
